A Grade II listed castle and a Methodist chapel are among the lots at Sheldon Bosley Knight’s November auction sale.

A Grade II listed castle, a Methodist chapel and a three-bed countryside house ripe for renovation are among the gems going under the hammer at a Cotswold auction this month.

Eight lots from across Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire will feature in the Sheldon Bosley Knight (SBK) sale which takes place at Chipping Norton Town Hall on Monday November 28.

The auction will be led by Matt Burrows, newly appointed to SBK and who is heading up the auction arm of the Midland-based business.

The Castle in Wimpstone forms part of a group of Grade II listed buildings dating from the 1600’s.
Tucked away down a leafy lane in a rural area of Warwickshire and just a few miles due south of Stratford-upon-Avon, it is a project for any passionate enthusiast or developer.

Set in an idyllic village location, the main four-storey house dates from the 17th century with early 18th century additions and later alterations.

Listed in 2000, it features some of the original stonework, is timber-framed with plastered infill and has some brick rebuilding to the end and a brick wing on a coursed rubble plinth.

To the outside are several barns and outbuildings including an old threshing barn which is ripe for conversion. It sits next to the river in five acres of land.

The house and its outbuildings were previously part of the Alscot Estate and are coming to the market for the first time with Sheldon Bosley Knight Auctions with a guide price of £500,000.

Although these historic buildings require total refurbishment, and in some places, rebuilding following a fire earlier this year, they would make an amazing home once fully restored. The thresher’s barn could also be transformed either into an annexe to the main house or as part of an equestrian centre. The possibilities are endless and very exciting.

The Chapel at Knightcote near Southam may be small but it is perfectly formed and offers significant potential for conversion subject to planning permission.

Believed to date back to 1837, the Methodist chapel is in the centre of Knightcote village and retains many original features as well as a garden at the front. It has a guide price of just £36,000.

Knightcote is a rural settlement with a great community spirit with the surrounding open countryside offering peace and quiet. The Burton Dassett hills are a great backdrop to this lovely village.

In the picturesque village of Todenham, Moreton-in-Marsh, a three-bed cottage in 0.3acres of land is being offered with a guide price of just £395,000.

With views over the Cotswold countryside this is a real gem and once fully restored it would make a beautiful family home.

It does have structural damage, but the potential is huge. Currently it has a double garage with loft space above, three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and cosy sitting room with stone fireplace and French doors opening out to a south facing garden and further across the glorious countryside.

Sheldon Bosley Knight’s head of auctions, Matt Burrows said:

“We are very excited to be offering these lots, all of them full of history, charm and potential, in our newly re-launched auction business.

“The Castle is very special as it’s located in a beautiful setting and offers considerable scope for the right person to redevelop the site to provide either equestrian facilities or a beautiful family home.

“The Chapel is packed with character and sits in a beautiful village with the Burton Dassett hills not far away.

“The house at Morton in Marsh does need some structural work to it but will make the most amazing home once it’s been restored to glory.

“I’m thrilled these properties will be part of our first auction which takes place on Monday November 28 at 6pm in Chipping Norton Town Hall. I’m confident there will be a great deal of interest in them as they are packed to the rafters with history and charm and are great investment and restoration projects.

“Sheldon Bosley Knight originally started out focusing on auctions and farm sales in 1843 and we are delighted that after many years, we have come full circle and have launched a dedicated auction department within the business.

“We will offer both a traditional in-the-room experience as well as conducting auctions online so as to attract as many buyers and sellers as possible.

“We know the auction will be extremely successful, having already booked four further sales for 2023, and are delighted Chipping Norton will be hosting the first event.”

Future sales will take place both online and in person at least every quarter with the next one due in February 2023.

Founded in Shipston-on-Stour in 1843, Sheldon Bosley Knight was originally built on auctions and on-site farm sales.

In the 179 years since, the company has grown and developed into an estate, land and property agency working across four counties and employing more than 100 staff.

The latest expansion to the company follows the acquisition of Wigwam Estate and Lettings Agents in Leamington and Banbury and Kavanagh Commercial based in Melksham, Wiltshire, earlier this year and brings the total number of additions to the SBK business this year to six.
